Lady Gaga had her "Marilyn Monroe moment" at Bill Clinton`s 65th birthday party, and actress Michelle Phillips will take her turn in the upcoming film British film "My Week With Marilyn" opening in November.
Three Southern California exhibitions this month -- one opening and two closing -- stoke the obsession with all things Marilyn.
Los Angeles: Large-scale photographs of Monroe by Lawrence Schiller capture the seductress in her final film shoot on the set of the 1962 (unfinished) film "Something`s Got to Give." Check out "12 Photographs" at the Duncan Miller Gallery (10959 Venice Blvd.). Through Nov. 26.
Catalina Island: The aptly named "Before She Was Marilyn" exhibition chronicles the years Norma Jeane Baker lived on the island with husband James Dougherty. Married at 16, she accompanied the merchant marine who was stationed on Catalina in 1943. The Catalina Island Museum show pieces together this early period in her life through letters and photos. Through Oct. 31.
Hollywood: The gold gown that Monroe wore in the 1953 film "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" is on exhibit as part of a larger Hollywood Legends Collection at Grauman`s Chinese Theatre. (Don`t confuse this with the white "subway dress" that sold for $4.6 million, plus auction house commission, in June.) The collection is on display in the theater lobby and open to ticket-holders or VIP Tour guests. Through Oct. 31.
