Join us for a virtual First Fridays at the Museum on Friday, December 2 at 6 pm. We are excited to welcome Sven Kirsten, guest curator of our recently opened Tall Tiki Tales: Catalina as a South Seas Island exhibition for a presentation on Zoom.
Polynesian Pop - Recreational Lifestyle of a Generation
As Americans became more affluent and able to spend money on leisure, vacation destinations vied for their attention and came up with ever more tempting concepts to attract tourism. The dream destination of the legendary South Sea isles was the perfect lure. Catalina already had the geographic advantage of being a Pacific island, so it just needed to add palm trees to happily proclaim itself as "the Tahiti of Southern California". Polynesia was now just 26 miles away from California.
This event is free for members of the museum and $5 for non-members. Registration is required.*
The Zoom link will be shared with all registrants one day before the event (Thursday, December 1). The link will be sent to the email used for registration.
*If you are interested but unable to attend at the time of the event, be sure to sign up anyway. We will record it and share it with all registrants after the fact.
