Fresh Air: Recent Additions to the Permanent Collection

April 3, 2022 - September 19, 2022

Catalina Museum for Art & History is proud to share a selection of recent acquisitions to its fine art collection.

Since 1953, the museum has been collecting and exhibiting contemporary art. Fresh Air highlights several significant works of plein air, studio painting, and pottery—acquired within the past year—that enrich the collection and help tell the Catalina story.

Catalina Island has been a destination for artists and painters for over 150 years. Early California landscape painters used impressionistic techniques, many of them painting outdoors, or en plein air. In 1958, the Catalina Art Festival was established and continues to this day, further tying contemporary art to the island history.

Each of these artworks has been generously donated to help support our mission to collect, preserve, and promote the culture and history of the island. Our vision is to be an anchor of tradition, a beacon of culture, inspiring our communities.
