Pictured is a detail of a preliminary sketch by John Gabriel Beckman for the fire curtain of Catalina Island's famous Casino Theatre, which opened in 1929. Beckman identified the scene as "The Flight of Fancy Westward," a salute to William Wrigley, Jr. - who had moved from Chiccago to California - and a symbolic representation of the migration of Americans westard. Beckman is also known for hte murals in Hollywood's Grauman's Chinese Theater.
